The main objectives of the PMN was to address the gender gaps in media sector and promote women's issue and concerns within the peace process ensuring their participation and representation.
In the period of December 2009-December 2010, EAN led to reform the Peace Media Network in Kathmandu where more than 20 media persons from 20 different media houses were included. EAN facilitated the regular meetings/interactions among the PMN member journalists and other related stakeholders. Beside this, EAN facilitated in expanding the PMN Networks in Makawanpur and Sunsari District. All together more than 60 journalists from different media were engaged with PMN during the period.
During the project period, EAN conducted three different trainings/workshops/events to PMN member journalists/editors on the issues of 'VAW & HIV/AIDS and Promotion of women's Rights & Inclusion in Peace and Constitution Making Processes of Nepal.' Those events were expected to help in increasing the advocacy level through different media on women's issues. Sixteen points of gender sensitivity code of conduct was drafted and endorsed by different media editors. EAN also had also monitored the articles published in different local and mainstream media to analyze the aspects of portrayal of women in those articles. It shows that the trend of bringing out women issues via news/articles is positive; yet portrayal of women in news/article is not satisfactory. Equal Access' trainings, orientations and workshops to media workers were found effective in terms of changing their perspective while bringing women issues through media.
Besides this, EAN facilitated as secretary of PMN to celebrate different international days like World AIDS Day, Women's Day, Anti-Trafficking Day, 16 Days of activism and Press Freedom Day in all 3 districts organized by PMN. 15 different events like Street Drama, Quiz competition, interaction and orientation program were accomplished on those international days during the project period. EAN took lead as secretariat to distribute media fellowship award for 25 different stories published/broadcast on different media.
Most of the PMN member journalists shared that their involvement in PMN has helped them a lot to enhance their knowledge on 'VAW & HIV/AIDS and Promotion of women's Rights & Inclusion in Peace and Constitution Making Processes of Nepal.
