On behalf of the Equal Access Nepal family, I am pleased to welcome you to our new website. I am particularly honored that you are now reading these words because it means that an idea that emerged some years ago has finally materialized. We feel that, although there is still much to do, it is time now for us to 'go live'.
Empowerment is about people. It is about gaining skills, increasing self-confidence, solving problems and moving towards self-reliance. For all of these to happen, communication plays a decisive role in advocating changes in the society. In recent years, the issue of equal access to knowledge and information is becoming one of the key aspects of sustaining livelihoods.
Communication for development has evolved beyond traditional boundaries and marketing to a greater emphasis on two-way communication flows, dialogues, and participation, which are now widely deemed essential to ensuring good governance. The true test of development communication and information processes lies in whether they are effectively strengthening voices of the poor in our society.
We believe that this website will play an integral role in creating positive social change for Nepal's marginalized communities by delivering the critically needed information and education thereby enabling people to build better lives.
A tremendous amount of work has made this website possible. However, I must highlight the invaluable contribution from our friends. The process of putting together the information through this new website is in itself a proof of the incredible hard work carried out by our staff.
I hope that this attractive new design and reorganization of the material will help us, not only to reach out to our audience more efficiently, but also to increase the visibility and accessibility of our site for the public in general and help us to get our message out to a wider audience. I look forward to receiving your guidance and insights in improving the website.
I wish you a happy reading!
