Bharat M. Devkota   -   Executive Director

Mr. Bharat M. Devkota has more than 34 years of professional experience mostly as development manager in multi sector program in different countries. Holds Ph D in Business Administration [Dissertation: Equitable Access of Women and Marginalized Ethnicity in Education and Tourism Sector in Nepal.]

 Worked as consultant for DfID and Ministry of Health and Population to prepare a Concept Paper on Gender Equality, Social Inclusion and Rights (GESIR) in Health Sector in Nepal. Content of the concept paper was included in Nepal Health Sector Program, Implementation Plan II (NHSP IP 2). Drafted GESI, monitoring and evaluation and alternative medicine sections of NHSP IP 2. As Team Leader, Bharat managed Equity and Access Program a multimillion $ program funded by DfID which focused on social mobilization and communication. Ensured socially excluded (due to cast, class, gender and remoteness) are included in the program. Set strategic direction, prepared financial plans and managed it. Build capacity of implementing partners on plan preparation, implementation, monitoring and evaluation and thematic areas like gender, social inclusion, institution strengthening and right based approach.

 As Country Director, of IRC in Azerbaizan was responsible for overall management of the country program. Set strategic direction, oversaw the implementation, human resource development and program monitoring. Major components of the program were health, education, partnership development, water and sanitation, entrepreneurship development, rehabilitation of community infrastructure like school, health institution, irrigation and drinking water systems. Worked with Save the Children US in different capacities (Program Director, Deputy Country Director and Country Director) in different countries (Nepal, Bhutan, Bangladesh and Tajikistan). Oversaw administration, finance, policy planning, MIS and sponsorship department functions. Support program learning groups, monitoring and reporting, program reviews and action research. Developed human resource plan, designed necessary policies for support functions. Developed training program ensured equitable gender and sector opportunities. Assisted and associated with Kamaiya andolan (free bonded labor movement).

Worked as Consultant with the World Bank for Emergency Social Action Project Technical Support for Preparing a Community-Based Housing Component, Sierra Leone. Participated in the World Bank appraisal mission in Poverty Alleviation Project, Tajikistan as micro-finance and institutional development expert for Tajikistan Social Investment Fund. Worked as consultant with Helvetas Nepal as backstopper in LLINK project. Restructured the project and assisted on implementation of new structure

Worked as Chief, Training Section in Agricultural Projects Services Center Managed activities under taken by the section. Worked as a training organizer and trainer in UN FAO assisted in-service training program and other various training programs for government officials at central and regional levels. In early part of career Bharat worked as Agricultural and Natural Resource Specialist, trainer/facilitator and Lecturer.
