Anu Upadhayay - Program Manager
Anu Upadhayay joined Equal Access Nepal as a Program Associate in August 2006. Initially she was responsible for producing an Early Childhood Development (ECD) themed radio series "Kheldai Sikdai" (Learning by Doing). She was also involved with the production of the program called "Naya Nepal" (New Nepal), a radio program dealing with peace building and conflict resolution and engaging young people’s participation for the same.
Apart from this, she also led the cross-border radio program named "Desh Pardesh" that Equal Access Nepal produced and broadcast to Nepali migrant audiences in Nepal and India. It dealt with the issues of safer migration, HIV and AIDS. She was responsible for conducting research on the issues related to safe migration, HIV and AIDS and incorporating the same within the radio program in a format that was engaging and entertaining while being educative. As with all Equal Access programs, the program was successful in bringing about positive changes in people’s knowledge, attitudes and behaviors around the areas of HIV and AIDS in the Mid-Western and Far Western Development Regions of Nepal, mainly because it involved local people and carried their voices and opinions.
Currently she has been working as a Program Manager managing and coordinating various radio programs through the conceptualization, planning, design, production, dissemination and the assessing of radio programs on themes related to HIV and AIDS, sexual and reproductive health, health, education and gender. She has always been excited by the power of media and communications and guided by the aim of informing audiences in an effective and attractive way that would ultimately lead to community development. She has a great passion for relating to people through the radio. Prior to her work with Equal Access Nepal, she worked as a radio reporter in Antenna Foundation Nepal for two and half year. She has undergone various trainings on the development and production of radio programming. She has master's degree in English Literature from Tribhuwan University.
